Submitting Music

Sessions that take music have a Submit a Track button on the session page. If you can't see one, the section at the bottom explains why.

What you can submit

A session chooses which kinds of submission it accepts, so you may see one of these or several:

  • An audio file you upload.
  • A video link — a URL to a video hosted somewhere else.
  • A multi-track submission, for sessions that listen to stems or several versions of the same piece.

Audio files

  • flac, mp3 or wav. Drop the file on the upload box or click it to browse.
  • Up to 200 MB. A full-length wav usually fits; if yours doesn't, an mp3 of the same music will.

Once the file is uploaded it is processed before it can be played. That takes a little while, and the track shows its progress until it is ready.

The details you add

Along with the file you give the track a title and an artist name.

You can also add notes, a cover image and release information — notes being what you were going for, what you want feedback on, where you got stuck. These are always on the form, but whether they're shown during the session is up to the organizers. Worth filling in either way — they stay with the track.

Changing a track after you submit it

You can edit the title, artist and notes at any time while the session is still to come.

Replacing the audio is different. You replace it by deleting the file that's there and uploading a new one — unless:

  • Somebody has left feedback. Feedback is pinned to a point in the track, so new audio would put every comment at the wrong moment. To change the file after that, delete the whole track and submit it again — which starts the feedback over too.
  • The session has ended. Nothing about the submission can be changed after that.

If you can't submit

The button tells you which of these it is:

  • Your email isn't confirmed yet. Confirm it from the link you were sent.
  • The group asks you to connect Discord first. Connect it on your Account page.
  • You've submitted as many tracks as this session allows. Delete one to submit another.
  • Submissions have closed. The session is no longer taking tracks.
  • The session is invite only. You need an invite from an organizer.
  • The session is full. It has taken all the tracks it has room for.

After the session

Your track and the feedback on it stay on your My Tracks page, and on the session's Session Details page. Two things you can do from either are worth knowing about:
